During
the initial years, the society's main projects
were for running the educational institutions,
but as years passed by, MES has introduced
numerous social welfare programs for the benefit
of the community. The scheme of awarding the
scholarships to the deserving students was its
first program and it was a great success as
there was a tremendous response from the community
and the well-wishers. Encouraged by such an
overwhelming support from the community for
service activities, the society started to diversify
into various educational projects. As the society had
no political links, the people from all walks
of life and background joined its fold and very
soon it became a major platform for all sections
of Muslims to take up social welfare activities
and to start educational institutions.
When MES
started collecting
the scholarship endowments, many philanthropists
came forward with tempting offers to start colleges
in their districts. MES Kalladi college was
the first one like this and colleges in Ponnani,
Kodungalluar, Mampad, Valanchery and other places
duly followed. A number of schools were also
started with the help and support of people
in different districts. MES Raja Residential
Central School was established and it became
a model institutions for other schools to follow.
A number of schools are run on CBSE syllabus
now. A number of parallel colleges, especially
for women were also established in different
districts. Calicut Women's College run by the
MES ladies wing became the leading institution
imparting even post graduate education for girls.
By 1972, MES has spread
to Middle-East countries and the establishment
of a school in Qatar was one of the major achievements
and a landmark for overseas units activities
of MES.
In different
Districts and Taluks, various institutions like
hostels, cultural centres, orphanages, industrial
training institutes etc., were started. MES
hostel at Calicut became the centre of MES activities
housing the MES Central Office. Both the Youth
Wing and Women's Wing were established and MES
has become the largest Muslim organisation running
a large number of institutions in the state.
A higher secondary matriculation school was
also started in Madras. In 1994, there was a
major breakthrough when MES College of Engineering
was started as the first self-financing college
in the private sector in Kerala.
